List of Birds of Malaysia Part 2 From Hornbills to Bulbul

I continue to publish the list of birds encountered in Malaysia.

BUCEROTIFORMES - Bucerotidae

50 (1257) Indian Hornbill (Oriental Pied Hornbill, Anthracoceros albirostris convexus)

Every day from March 1 to March 6, we were greeted at the hotel on the island of Langkawi, as well as when traveling around the island (Pulau Langkawi, Kedah).
During the evening flight, up to 25 birds were counted for the night.

51 Two-horned kalao (Great Hornbill, Buceros bicornis)

On 3 March in the evening, birds were observed feeding and flying on Mount Gunung Raya on Pulau Langkawi, Kedah.
Mount Gunung Raya is a famous concentration of hornbills. During the evening we saw over 30 birds, mostly males. The birds were feeding on fig trees.
Very late we drove up to the nesting hole, in which the female was sitting on the eggs. After the arrival of the male, we observed the feeding of the female. During the evening, 25 feedings were recorded.
On the evening of 4 March, several birds flew by in the Datai Forest on Pulau Langkawi, Kedah.

On March 9, one bird in a tent clearing (Taman Negara National Park, Pahang).

Synonym: Aceros undulatus.

From 4 to 8 August, heard everywhere and often seen in Fraser's Hill and its surroundings (Bukit Fraser, Pahang).
The song of the barbart is like the loud sounds of cicadas.

Almost daily from 10 to 14 March heard on the premises of a hotel in Taman Negara National Park, Pahang.

On March 13, a woodpecker was feeding on a tree trunk near a trail (Taman Negara National Park, Pahang).

On March 12, one female at the Mutiara Taman Negara Resort (Taman Negara National Park, Pahang).

65 (1270) Yellow-rumped Woodpecker (Buff-rumped Woodpecker, Meiglyptes tristis grammithorax)

Some taxonomists, including HBW, distinguish woodpeckers as a separate species Buff-rumped Woodpecker (Meiglyptes grammithorax).

I must say that the Russian name is extremely unfortunate. The loin is not yellow, but pale yellow, besides, it is completely invisible behind the variegated wings.

On March 8, they were seen ascending to the Japanese Garden in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang.
A bird was seen on the trail to Lubok Simpon Bath (Taman Negara National Park, Pahang) on ​​11 March.

Groups of birds (adults and juveniles) were seen on the island of Langkawi (Pulau Langkawi, Kedah) every day from 3 to 7 March. Birds were photographed in the Oriental Villag and at the site of the destroyed hotel.
On March 14, several birds in the park in front of Petronos in Kuala Lumpur (KL City Park, Kuala Lumpur).
I met them there on 26 August.

Black-headed Oriole (Black-hooded Oriole, Oriolus xanthornus)

On March 3, the birds sang, responded to the broadcast of the recording of the song and flew to the sound source in the forest near the village of Kisap on the island of Langkawi
(Pulau Langkawi, Kedah). The birds were very careful and did not allow themselves to be photographed.
One of the avian "rarities" on the island, which is actually caused by the southernmost point of distribution of this species on the Malacca Peninsula.
Orioles are believed to nest in the evergreen Kisap mangrove forest.

Due to the recent split of the paradise flycatcher Terpsiphone paradisi three species (Fabre et al. 2012, Andersen et al. 2015, H & M4, Clements et al. 2015) I had to indicate it as a new species on my list. Russian and English names are not yet well-established and may change.
