Celeus is a genus of woodpeckers found in tropical and subtropical forests and woodlands in Central America and South America. Its participants:

  • Cinnamon woodpecker, Celeus loricatus
  • Scaly-chested woodpecker Celeus grammicus
  • Waving woodpecker Celeus undatus
  • Chestnut woodpecker, Celeus castaneus
  • Chestnut woodpecker, Celeus elegans
  • A woodpecker with a pale crest Celeus lugubris
  • Woodpecker with a blond comb, Celeus flavescens
  • Cream woodpecker, Celeus flavus
  • A woodpecker with a red head Celeus spectabilis
  • Kaempfer's Woodpecker, Celeus (spectabilis) obrieni, formerly the Caatinga woodpecker
  • Ring-shaped woodpecker, Celeus torquatus
  • Black-breasted Amazon woodpecker Celeus occidentalis
  • Black-breasted Atlantic woodpecker. Celeus tinnunculus

South Asian red-headed woodpecker (Micropternus brachyurus) is a specific species that was previously placed in Celeus also. However, its similarity seems to be due to a converging development, as it does not even seem to belong to the same Picinae tribe as Celeus does.
